Burti suggests Jaguar promotion was down to luck

NEW Jaguar driver Luciano Burti has suggested that his move onto the Formula One grid was down to luck.

The talented Brazilian, who was the Milton Keynes-based team's test driver last season, said that replacing Johnny Herbert as Eddie Irvine's team-mate for 2001 had a lot to do with good fortune.

"I've heard it all before and it is true," Burti said. "You have to be in the right place at the right time.

"When you have a chance you have got to make the most of it and I very much intend to do that next season."

Burti, who stood in for an ill Irvine in the Austrian Grand Prix, revealed that he had been told he would take over from Herbert after the Belgian Grand Prix in August.

He added: "I've been assured of the drive since just before Spa but the team wanted to announce it before Monza when I signed the contract."
