Brazilian rising star Antonio Pizzonia clinched the British Formula 3 Championship over the weekend at Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium. Pizzonia now cannot be caught in the race to the title although at Spa he was beaten by series newcomer Tiago Monteiro. Pizzonia's title rival Tomas Scheckter cannot now catch him in the points scores. The South African finished ninth at Spa. Monteiro has previously raced in the French F3 series but made a great impression in his first race in the British series. Meanwhile in Germany Giorgio Pantano continued his path to success with a first place and a second in the two races at Ochersleben. Both Pantano and Pizzonia have already tested for the Benetton F1 team so far this season.
Pantano is believed to be a possible candidate for the Williams test drive for 2001.
