No one to blame says Mosley

FIA president Max Mosley has stated that he feels no one was to blame for the carnage that cost the life of a fire marshal at Monza during the weekend.

Flying debris hit Paolo Ghislimberti during the Italian Grand after Heniz-Harald Frentzen collided with his Jordan team-mate Jarno Trulli, causing a huge accident also involving Rubens Barrichello, David Coulthard and Pedro de la Rosa.

Ferrari driver Barrichello promptly launched a stinging attack on German Frentzen claiming he was to blame for the crash and should be banned for 10 races.

But Mosely remains adamant that no one person was to blame for the carnage.

Mosley said: "Things like this do happen from time to time. The stewards held an inquiry afterwards and interviewed all the five drivers concerned and came to the conclusion it was a racing accident for which no person could be blamed.

"But inevitably when you have a multiple pile-up - even on the roads - you will find one or more of the drivers will be very clear in their minds about who to blame.

"But all one can say is the stewards are completely independent and if there was someone to blame they certainly would have penalised him."
