Herbert attends CART race

JOHNNY HERBERT attended the 11th round of the CART FedEx Championship in Michigan on Sunday and strengthened speculation that he is set to join the American series next year.

Herbert, who is expected to leave Jaguar and Formula One at the end of the season, went to the event with his representatives as he aims to secure himself a drive for 2001.

"There's been a couple of things going on," Herbert said. "We're talking with everybody at the moment and it's just a case of seeing which ones come to fruition.

"It's interesting because it's nice to be here and it's nice to feel the feedback that has come since I got here. It's been a nice reception."

Herbert, who is resigned to leaving Formula One, claimed he still has a lot to offer motor sport.

"I don't see any reason why I shouldn't be here in ChampCars next season," he said. "I feel I can give a lot to them and I'm sure I'll end up with someone."
