Villeneuve warns BAR

JACQUES VILLENUEVE says that he is not interested in staying at British American Racing if the team does not give him a competitive car in 2001. Villeneuve scored BAR's first World Championship points in Melbourne.

"To do this in our first race with Honda is really good," said Jacques. "This is a great start to the season and gives us something on which to build."

But there was no getting away from the fact that there was an element of luck involved with a lot of the normal frontrunners dropping out of the race, notably McLaren, Jordan, Jaguar and Arrows.

"I did not come to BAR to hang around at the back of the grid," said Villeneuve. "I came to BAR to win races and I hope that I can achieve this."

BAR team boss Craig Pollock says that he does not want to lose Villeneuve but that the team cannot expect to keep him if the team does not deliver good results.
