Mika versus Michael in Berlin

THERE are plans to stage a race on the streets of Berlin between World Championship challengers Michael Schumacher and Mika Hakkinen. A German TV station is hoping to get the two drivers to go head-to-head in identical production cars on a closed-off section of road in downtown Berlin. The race will last about five minutes and is to be used as part of a program about the banning of tobacco advertising in Europe.

There is already opposition to the idea from environmentalists in Berlin although the city authorities are unlikely to be swayed as the event would be a good opportunity for the city to promote itself. It may be more difficult for the TV station to convince the two drivers to take part...
