F1's snow men

IF action on the race tracks is winding down at the moment in Europe, the French are taking to the mountains as usual for the annual Trophee Andros ice racing series. These races take place at ski resorts across France and feature some of the top names of the sport, racing in specially-built prototypes - some of which have strong factory backing.

This winter there are no fewer than six former Grand Prix drivers taking part in the Trophee: Patrick Tambay is campaigning a BMW 318i against Jacques Laffite and Philippe Alliot (Peugeot 309s), Jean-Marc Gounon and Franck Lagorce in Spanish SEATs and Jean-Pierre Jarier in a Toyota.

Last weekend the Trophee Andros teams were in action on the ice of Andorra, the tiny independent state in the Pyrenees mountains between France and Spain.
