A Formula Junior competitor in the early 1960s, Taylor was a protege of Bob Gerard whose 1-liter Cosworth SCA-engined Cooper he drove in the 1964 British Grand Prix at Brands Hatch. Two years later he took in a series of Formula 1 races in John Bridges's private 2-liter Brabham-BRM V8 until colliding with Jacky Ickx's Formula 2 Matra in the German Grand Prix at Nurburgring. He crashed heavily and suffered serious burns from which he died a few weeks later.
