Schwelm-Cruz started racing in Italy during 1949 with an Alfa Romeo 2300 before debuting in Argentina two years later when he was national sports car champion. He drove a Cooper-Bristol in the 1953 Argentine Grand Prix but retired with a broken stub axle.
