DRIVERS: LUIGI PIOTTI
Name: Luigi Piotti
Date of birth: October 27, 1913 - Milan
Date of death: April 19, 1971 - Godiasco, Italy
This middle-aged Italian privateer was typical of the many well-heeled customers who kept Maserati in business during the mid-1950s. His biggest claim to fame was when he pushed Stirling Moss's out-of-fuel works 250F round to the pits at Monza so it could refuel before continuing to win the 1956 Italian Grand Prix. Protests that Moss had received "outside assistance" were rejected on the basis that Piotti was an informal member of the Maserati team and therefore not an outsider!
