Riccardo Paletti

This pleasant, bespectacled novice drove for the uncompetitive Formula 1 Osella team in 1982 and died from injuries sustained when his car ran into the back of Didier Pironi's stalled pole position Ferrari at the start of the Canadian Grand Prix. Paletti, who had started from the back of the grid, was doing over 100mph when the cars ahead of him suddenly dodged aside to confront him with his stationary rival which he could not avoid.
