A graduate of the hotly-contested 500cc Formula 3 category, he made his name at the wheel of a Cooper, racing wheel-to-wheel with the legendary Jim Russell in 1956 and 1957. For the 1958 Moroccan Grand Prix he drove a Formula 2 Cooper-Climax on his sole Formula 1 race outing, crashing heavily and sustaining light injuries.
