Bob Tyrrell

Ken Tyrrell's second son, Bob studied languages at King's College, London, before becoming a management trainee with the Turner & Newall industrial group. He spent four years with the company and then in 1973 set up a business to market Elf Tyrrell merchandise to race fans around the world. In 1979 he launched an international licensing business involving the F1 teams and model-making companies. He later joined Tyrrell to help the team with its marketing. In 1990 he was appointed managing-director and he remained in that role until the team was sold for $30m in 1997 to British American Tobacco, which re-established it as British American Racing (BAR). He left the team in February 1998.
