Miller dropped out of university to become a mechanic with the fledgling Dave Price Racing in 1978. After a couple of years he joined RAM Automotive which was running old Williams chassis in the Aurora British F1 series. In 1981 RAM did a deal with March and found backing from Guinness and Rizla to run Derek Daly and Eliseo Salazar in the Formula 1 World Championship. The following season RAM convinced Rothmans to enter F1 and signed up Jochen Mass and Raul Boesel. It was not a success and later that year Miller decided to go back to Dave Price Racing where he took control of the French Formula 3 program, running Pierre Petit to the title in 1982 and Francois Hesnault to the runner-up slot the following year. The team went on to run Paul Belmondo and even pop star Andrew Ridgeley (George Michael's partner in the teen band Wham!). Miller was also involved in running Johnny Dumfries during his successful 1984 campaigns in British and European F3 with DPR.

Andy stayed with Dave Price until 1987 when he was hired by Gary Evans to run his GEM Formula 3000 team. The team lasted for two years before Evans decided to give up racing and sold the operation to Paul Stewart.

Miller stayed on at Paul Stewart Racing, being one of the founding members of the team which would win a string of titles in the junior formulae, including British F3 titles for Gil de Ferran, Kelvin Burt and Jan Magnussen.

When Stewart decided to start Stewart Grand Prix Miller was appointed operations director of the new team. He ran operations until the team was sold to Ford in 1999. When the new Jaguar Racing team was announced Miller took on the additional job of being Director of Racing but his role was reduced in 2001 when the team was restructured by Bobby Rahal and he left the team in 2002 to work as an engineer with Mario Haberfeld in Formula 3000. In 2003 he follows Haberfeld to CART.
