Tim Goss was born on February 28 1963 and has been working in motorsport since he graduated from Imperial College, London, after completing his postgraduate studies, specialising in ignition of turbocharged engines. He joined Cosworth in 1986 and stayed there until moving to McLaren in 1990 when he took the role as the engineer in charge of engine installation design. he has since had a number of different roles at McLaren, including a period as assistant race engineer to Mika hakkinen, the head of test team engineering, the head of vehicle dynamics and finally the man in charge of powertrain development. In 2005 he was appointed the chief engineer for the MP4-21 and led the design team of the 2006 car. It is anticipated that he will now move on to a similar role for the MP4-23 in 2008.
