PEOPLE: TIM EDWARDS
Name: Tim Edwards
Edwards was trained as a mechanic in a Melbourne Ford dealership before he decided at the age of 21 to head to Britain to make a career in motor racing - as many Australians had done before him. He started work as a mechanic with Alan Docking Racing at Silverstone and after a season in Formula 3 moved to the Docking-run Mazdaspeed sports car team. After a season in that role he was hired away from Docking by Richard Lloyd Racing to work on a Porsche sportscar program.
In 1991 he was recruited to join the new Jordan Grand Prix, working in the sub-assembly department. In 1992 he was promoted to the racing team as a mechanic on the Jordan spare car and by 1994 had moved through the ranks to become the number one mechanic on Rubens Barrichello's car. In 1997 he was promoted to chief mechanic for the entire team and was in charge of preparing the cars when the team won its first F1 victories the following year.
He has since become the Jordan team's test team manager although in 2001 he moved up to the role of team manager.
