Michel Amiot
Moving the many tons of Formula 1 equipment around the world is no mean achievement and means that every organization involved needs to have their its own logistics manager. Michel Amiot does that job. Amiot is highly experienced at his task having been involved in Formula 1 since he joined Renault Sport in 1979. Born in France in 1943, he started out with Renault as a quality control technician at the age of 19, ensuring that the parts produced met the necessary standards. After three years doing that he turned his hand to the management of commercial exports, a job which he did for seven years before becoming a product manager, ensuring that all the elements of a program came together at the same time to create the product. In 1979, as Renault Sport expanded to a two-car operation with drivers Jean-Pierre Jabouille and Rene Arnoux, Amiot was switched across to look after the team's logistical back-up. It was a big job even then with both the engines and the chassis being built at Renault Sport. After Renault Sport closed down its own operations, the company continued to supply customer engines to Lotus, Ligier and Tyrrell. There were a couple of quiet years after Renault stopped all F1 activity before the company returned in 1988 with Williams. After Renault's official withdrawal from F1 at the end of 1997 Amiot was one of the staff who were loaned to Mecachrome to continue to run the F1 engine program and, when the commercialization of the Mecachrome engines passed to Supertec, Amiot continued in his usual role - still employed by Renault.
