CIRCUITS: DALLAS

Name: Dallas

The Dallas Grand Prix was the idea of local businessmen Larry Wardrop and Don Walker who wanted to give their town a bigger international profile. The idea was to lay out a track in the State Park just outside the city. In July 1984, in oppressive heat, Keke Rosberg gave Honda its first modern F1 victory in Dallas, surviving to bring his Williams home when many other front-runners crashed. The race was not a success and Walker and Wardrop later split with Walker planning to build a new multi-purpose facility to the south of the city.
