Jack Fairman

A second division Formula 1 driver who originally dovetailed his racing with the task of running his family's precision tool manufacturing business. Fairman had more determination than flair but achieved a couple of top six finishes in a works Connaught during 1956, his best result being fourth in the British Grand Prix. He drove a BRM in the 1957 British Grand Prix at Aintree and one of Bernie Ecclestone's Connaughts in the '58 race. His final World Championship outing came in a private Cooper-Climax at Monza in 1961, although two years later - at the age of 50 - he drove one of Carel de Beaufort's Ecurie Maarsbergen Porsches in the non-Championship City of Imola Grand Prix where he finished seventh.
