Erwin Bauer

A German amateur racer known for driving an undermatched Lotus to fourth place in the 1954 Nurburgring 1000 Km, providing Lotus with one of its earliest Continental successes. He drove a Veritas RS in the 1953 German Grand Prix at the Nurburgring. Killed at the same circuit five years later at the wheel of a 2-liter sports Ferrari where, not realizing he had passed the chequered flag, he kept on racing and crashed fatally on what was in fact the slowing-down lap.
