Anthony Davidson topped the time sheets on Friday morning at Indianapolis, recording a best time of 1m12.083s ahead of Michael Schumacher's Ferrari. The former World Champion did only three laps and caused the only news of the session by spinning off at Turn 4 and ending up in the gravel. His lap time was four-tenths down on the Honda. This fastest was BMW's Robert Kubica, who lapped the track in 1m13.008s. The other two Hondas were up there too with Rubens Barrichello and Jenson Button next up ahead of Toro Rosso's Neel Jani. The rest of the times were not really significant and a long list of cars including the Toyotas, the Renaults, the Red Bulls, the McLarens, the BMWs and the Williamses did little more than installation laps.

The crowd however was big and that is good news for the future.
