Race Notes - Vettel dominates Red Bull 1-2

Sebastian Vettel won the Turkish Grand Prix in commanding fashion, leading a Red Bull-Renault sweep. Mark Webber finishing second, 8.8 seconds behind. Fernando Alonso, after running second for much of the race, finished in third place in his Ferrari, 10.0 seconds behind the winner.

The win is Vettel's 13th career victory, and his third of the season.

Lewis Hamilton (40.2s) in the McLaren-Mercedes finished fourth, followed by Nico Rosberg (47.5s) in his Mercedes GP in fifth, Jenson Button (59.4s) in the second McLaren in sixth, Nick Heidfeld (60.8s) in his Renault in seventh, his team mate Vitaly Petrov (68.1s) in eighth, Sebastien Buemi (69.3s) in the Toro Rosso-Ferrari in ninth and Kamui Kobayashi (78.0s) in the Sauber-Ferrari in the final points paying position, after starting the race last.

Before the start Timo Glock lost fifth gear on the way to the grid, and returned to the garage where the Virgin mechanics frantically worked to repair the car - he will start from the pitlane.

At the start, Vettel leads from pole-position, Rosberg slots into second ahead of Webber. Hamilton runs wide and Alonso goes fourth followed by Button, Hamilton, Michael Schumacher, Petrov, Heidfeld and Felipe Massa.

At the end of the first lap Sergio Perez pits for a new front wing. Hamilton pressures his team mate Button for fifth place. Petrov tries to pass down the inside of Schumacher and the two touch, Massa getting past into seventh. Schumacher pits for a new front wing and rejoins in 22nd place.

On lap 5, Webber with the help of DRS makes a clean pass on the outside of Rosberg.

At lap 5 Vettel leads Webber by 4.4 seconds, followed by Rosberg (4.6s), Alonso (5.0s), Button (7.3s), Hamilton (7.8s), Massa (9.1s), Petrov (11.9s), Barrichello (13.6s) and Heidfeld (14.0s) in tenth place.

On lap 6 Alonso tries the same pass on Rosberg as Webber the previous lap but can not make it work - the two battle, and Alonso gets him on lap 7. Hamilton passes Button into turn 12. Button retakes fifth place into turn 1 the next lap.

On lap 9 Petrov pits from eighth place.

On lap 10 Massa, Hamilton and Buemi pit. The next lap Webber, Alonso, Rosberg, Heidfeld, Rubens Barrichello and Adrian Sutil pit. Vettel pits from the lead on lap 12, Button, yet to stop, takes the lead. Paul di Resta and Pastor Maldonado also pit.

On lap 13 Petrov and Heidfeld bang wheels but continue.

Kamui Kobayashi, who started last and is yet to pit is up to fifth place.

On lap 14 Button pits from the lead, along with Kobayashi, Jaime Alguersuari and Jarno Trulli.

On lap 15 Hamilton passes Rosberg for fourth in the DRS zone.

At lap 15 Vettel leads Webber by 2.8 seconds, followed by Alonso (5.4s), Hamilton (13.7s), Rosberg (14.5s), Massa (15.0s), Button (20.1s), Petrov (23.7s), Heidfeld (25.1s) and Buemi (28.2s) in tenth place.

On lap 16 Di Resta passes Schumacher and the two make minor contact.

Massa is pressuring Rosberg for fifth place. Perez sets the fastest lap at 1m32.2s.

On lap 20 Petrov in the first to make his second stop from eighth place. Massa passes Rosberg in the DRS zone, Rosberg comes back and retakes the position.

On lap 21 Hamilton pits from fourth place - his lap times have been suffering.

Massa passes Rosberg on the next lap in the DRS zone - Button follows him along and battles Rosberg, taking the position.

Webber pits from second.

On lap 23 Rosberg and Heidfeld pit from fifth and sixth. Alonso pits from second place the next lap. Button passes Massa, and then Massa pits along with Buemi and Kobayashi. Rosberg passes Di Resta for 11th place. Barrichello and Di Resta pit the next lap.

On lap 25 Vettel pits from the lead. Alonso sets fastest lap at 1m32.0 seconds. Sutil pits from eighth. Alonso closes to 1.3 seconds of Webber. Button pits the next lap from fourth place. Vettel sets fastest lap at 1m31.7 seconds.

At lap 27 Vettel leads Webber by 8.5 seconds, followed by Alonso (9.1s), Hamilton (26.1s), Petrov (35.8s), Massa (36.0s), Button (37.9s), Rosberg (38.9s), Heidfeld (39.3s) and Schumacher (42.2s) in tenth place.

On lap 30 Alonso passes Webber in the DRS zone for second place. Button closes on Massa. Schumacher pits for his third stop.

Massa and Button close on Petrov in fifth place.

On lap 34 Rosberg pits from eighth place. Hamilton pits from fourth the next lap, and has a slow 25 second stop. Button passes Massa in the DRS zone. Petrov and Massa pit.

On lap 36 Webber pits from third place. Vettel sets fastest lap at 1m31.6 seconds. Alonso pits from second place the next lap, along with Heidfeld. Hamilton sets fastest lap at 1m31.5 seconds.

Massa runs wide at turn 8 in the marbles, and loses a few places.

Webber sets fastest lap at 1m31.0 seconds. Rosberg passes Barrichello for seventh place.

At lap 37 Vettel leads Alonso by 25.7 seconds, followed by Webber (27.5s), Button (48.5s), Buemi (53.8s), Hamilton (59.1s), Rosberg (61.9s), Barrichello (65.3s), Petrov (65.9s) and Heidfeld (67.9s)

Alonso sets fastest lap at 1m30.4 seconds.

On lap 40 Button pits from fourth place. Vettel pits from the lead on the next lap and holds the position, along with Buemi from fifth place, Barrichello and Sutil.

Ferrari radios Alonso, telling him they will react and pit if Red Bull pits again.

On lap 45 Rosberg is the first to make a fourth pitstop, along with Di Resta. Webber pits the next lap from third place, along with Petrov from sixth and Schumacher from 11th.

On lap 47 Alonso pits from second place, staying ahead of Webber. Hamilton, Heidfeld and Massa pit. Massa loses a lot of time in the pits. Vettel pits from the lead on the next lap for his final stop.

Webber sets fastest lap at 1m29.9 seconds, and then sets it again at 1m29.7 seconds, to close to 1.7 seconds behind Alonso. Hamilton, on fresher tyres, passes Button for fourth place in the DRS zone and pulls away from his team mate.

At lap 50 Vettel leads Alonso by 6.3 seconds, followed closely by Webber (7.2s), Hamilton (40.9s), Button (43.1s), Rosberg (47.0s), Buemi (57.7s), Petrov (61.9s), Heidfeld (62.1s) and Kobayashi (65.7s) in tenth place.

On lap 52 Webber passes Alonso in the final set of corners to take second place, Alonso battles back but can not retake the position.

Massa and Schumacher battle for 12th place, the two battle and Massa eventually takes the place.

On lap 55 Rosberg, on fresher tyres passes Button for fifth place.

On lap 56 Alguersuari pits.

Perez and Sutil battle for 13th place, Sutil taking the place at the line.

Vettel cruises to the win, followed by his team mate Webber in second and Alonso in third.
