Heikki Kovalainen set the fastest time of the second session of Friday practice for the Turkish GP, beating Fernando Alonso, Robert Kubica and Kazuki Nakajima. This unusual line-up suggests that the times should not be taken too seriously. Fifth place went to Sebastian Vettel, who missed much of the session after an early mechanical problem left him stranded on the circuit. The car was retrieved by marshals and sent out again. Behind the Red Bull driver was the Toyota of Jarno Trulli and the Williams-Toyota of Nico Rosberg. Rubens Barrichello was eighth quickest in his Brawn-Mercedes ahead of Mark Webber, Nelson Piquet, Felipe Massa and Jenson Button.

Lewis Hamilton was next up ahead of Timo Glock, Kimi Raikkonen, Nick Heidfeld and then the two Force Indias and the two Toro Rossos.

Several drivers had spins, while Fisichella and Nakajima had a minor collision and both spun.
