The second practice session for the Turkish Grand Prix resulted in a very close finish between Kimi Raikkonen's Ferrari and Lewis Hamilton's McLaren. The pair were split by just a few hundredths of a second, with Felipe Massa just a tenth behind. David Coulthard was a surprising fourth fastest ahead of Heikki Kovalainen in the second McLaren. But it was not a great day for Red Bull Racing as Mark Webber spun and crashed his car in the session, ending up in 19th as a result.

BMW seemed to be maintaining its practice of not showing its hand on Fridays with Robert Kubica half a second behind Kovalainen, but was still two-tenths clear of Jarno Trulli's Toyota, Kzauki Nakajima's Williams and Fernando Alonso's Renault. Nick Heidfeld completed the top 10 in his BMW.

Jenson Button was 11th fastest in his Honda ahead of Timo Glock's Toyota and Nico Rosberg in the second Williams. He lost his best time for missing one of the corners in the course of his quickest lap.

Giancarlo Fisichella, who has to cope with a three-place grid penalty in qualifying was next ahead of Rubens Barrichello's Honda and the Renault of Nelson Piquet. There was further trouble for Force India with Adrian Sutil slowest of all, behind the two Scuderia Toro Rossos and the Webber.
