Practice 2 Report - A conjuring trick from BMW

On several occasions this year BMW has run cars with lighter fuel loads in order to make the right impression in F1 and on Friday in Istanbul the team did it again with F1 newcomer Sebastian Vettel setting the fastest time in his first day of action in F1. Although the youngster clearly ran without much fuel in his car, he did a good job and marked himself as a man to be watched in F1 in the future.

Vettel ended the session a tenth quicker than Felipe Massa's Ferrari and ahead of the two Hondas of Jenson Button and Anthony Davidson.

Ralf Schumacher showed that the Toyota has potential, with a best lap that was faster than that achieved by his brother Michael.

Next up was Robert Doornbos although the Dutchman was involved in controversy as he collided with the Renault of Fernando Alonso in the closing stages of the session. There was no damage but the incident meant that Alonso was well off the pace.

The session saw Jarno Trulli having a spin.
