The Friday practice sessions were a chance once again for the test drivers to have their moments of glory as the main runners kept down their mileage, particularly given the fact that the track was damp in the morning.

At the end of the second session Anthony Davidson set the fastest lap with a time of 1m16.533s, ahead of Red Bull's Robert Doornbos who stopped the clocks at 1m16.824s. Fernando Alonso was third fastest for Renault ahead of Williams test driver Alexander Wurz, Christian Klien of Red Bull Racing, Michael Schumacher, Giancarlo Fisichella, Jenson Button, Rubens Barrichello and Ralf Schumacher.

There were no major incidents in the two sessions although Franck Montagny lost an engine in the morning although a 10-slot penalty on the grid for a Super Aguri is no big deal. The McLarens were the only team not to do many laps with Kimi Raikkonen and Juan Pablo Montoya just doing a few shake-down runs.
