The unpredictable nature of the Formula 1 season is expected to continue this weekend in Imola, the start of the European Formula 1 season.

Th races thus far have been won by McLaren and (by good luck) by Jordan in Brazil. The chances are that we will see yet another winner in Imola with the Ferraris expected to be right on the pace. Michael Schumacher and Rubens Barrichello are desperate for their first win of the year, which is long overdue, and BMW Williams must also be expected to be in the hunt. Juan Pablo Montoya is the danger man as Ralf Schumacher has been very disappointing this year. It is unlikely that we will see anyone else winning the race but if the top three teams stumble there are several teams which could step into the breach with BAR, Sauber, Renault, Toyota and Jaguar all looking capable of a big result. Toyota has had the least chance this year but a good result is long overdue.

The way things are at the moment in F1, pretty much anything is possible, particularly if the weather is an issue. However the natural hierarchy must at some point reassert itself and when that happens Michael Schumacher has got to be a contender.
