Heikki Kovalainen set the fastest time of the morning session in Monaco, although the session was disrupted by rain which made later efforts relatively meaningless. Heikki's session ended when he lost the rear of his car and tagged a barrier, bringing out a red flag. The Finn ended the session half a second clear of team-mate Lewis Hamilton with Kimi Raikkonen a tenth behind in his Ferrari.

Nico Rosberg conitnued his good run with fourth fastest time ahead of Robert Kubica and Felipe Massa. Mark Webber was seventh but then came Adrian Sutil in the Force India with Kazuki Nakajima and Jenson Button completing the top 10.

Sebastien Bourdais was 11th in the new Toro Rosso with Timo Glock's Toyota and Rubens Barrichello's Honda in hot pursuit. Nelson Piquet was 14th in the second Renault ahead of Sebastian Vettel, an oddly-slow Fernando Alonso, Jarno Trulli, Nick Heidfeld, Giancarlo Fisichella and David Coulthard.

The order is unlikely to be the same this afternoon in qualifying, but there is no doubt that luck will play a part with Monaco in damp conditions likely to produce some accidents as drivers fight for a good grid position, something which is of key importance in Monte Carlo.
