Felipe Massa set the fastest time of the morning session on Saturday, setting a lap that was nearly four-tenths of a second ahead of Nick Heidfeld's BMW Sauber. Michael Schumacher was third fastest but would have done better had he not gone over the first chicane at the start of his final run of the session. Schumacher is expected to be right up with Massa in qualifying this afternoon. Fourth quickest in the session was Robert Kubica in his BMW but BMW's habit of running the cars rather light in the sessions leading up to qualifying means that the German-Swiss cars are not expected to be quite as competitive this afternoon. There is nonetheless a big gap between Massa and Fernando Alonso, who was fifth quickest in the morning in his Renault, seven-tenths off the pace of the Ferrari. Giancarlo Fisichella was sixth ahead of Kimi Raikkonen, Rubens Barrichello's Honda, Pedro de la Rosa's McLaren and the Red Bull of Christian Klien.

The Honda team decided after Anthony Davidson's adventures on Friday to go with an older version of the engine but as Honda can put the newer engine into a Super Aguri it is anticipated that the engine that will go to the FIA for homologation for 2007 and 2008 will be the advanced spec.
