Kimi Raikkonen continued to lead the way at the Nurburging, setting the fastest lap of the morning session on Saturday with a time that two-tenths of a second faster than McLaren's Lewis Hamilton. There was then a bigger gap back to Fernando Alonso, although the Spaniard was probably not going as fast as he will this afternoon. Felipe Massa, in the second Ferrari, was once again a little off the pace and found himself in fifth, behind the BMW Sauber of Robert Kubica. Nico Rosberg was sixth in his Williams, ahead of Nick Heidfeld, who was celebrating the birth of a new child at five o'clock this morning. Heidfeld will do qualifying this afternoon and will then fly to Switzerland to see his wife Patricia and baby Joda and then fly back to the Nurburgring tomorrow morning.

Behind Heidfeld were the two Red Bull-Renaults with Mark Webber beating David Coulthard. Ralf Schumacher was 10th quickest in his Toyota, just beating Tonio Liuzzi's Toro Rosso and Jenson Button's Honda.

Jarno Trulli was 13th in his Toyota ahead of Scott Speed's Toro Rosso, Alexander Wurz's Williams, the Renault of Giancarlo Fisichella and Rubens Barrichello's Honda.

The field was completed by Heikki Kovalainen's Renault, the two Super Aguris of Anthony Davidson and Takuma Sato and the two Spykers of Adrian Sutil and Markus Winkelhock.
