Practice 2 Report - Raikkonen moves ahead
Kimi Raikkonen ended the second practice session for the European Grand Prix at the Nurburgring at the top of the timesheets, beating Lewis Hamilton by a tenth of a second. The McLaren driver had two spins but was a tenth ahead of Felipe Massa but he was just a few hundredths ahead of Fernando Alonso. There were thus no real surprises at the sharp end of F1 although the laps times were over a second off the morning session, thanks to a rain storm that hit the circuit over the lunchtime break.
There was a surprise in fifth and sixth with the two Toyotas in the hunt: Ralf Schumacher ahead of Jarno Trulli. The presence of Nico Rosberg in seventh place was not unusual but seeing Jenson Button eighth was a big surprise. This put the Honda ahead of the two BMWs: Nick Heidfeld just ahead of Robert Kubica as usual.
The fastest Red Bull was Mark Webber ahead of the second Williams belonging to Alexander Wurz. The Super Aguri of Takuma Sato was next up ahead of Rubens Barrichello's factory car and the two Renaults of Giancarlo Fisichella and Heikki Kovalainen.
David Coulthard was next up in his Red Bull-Renault.
The timesheet was completed by Anthony Davidson, the Toro Rossos of Scott Speed and Tonio Liuzzi and the Spykers of Adrian Sutil and Markus Winkelhock.
