Practice 1 Report - Hamilton leads the way in first practice
Lewis Hamilton took his McLaren to the top of the timesheets at the Nurburgring, two-tenths of a second ahead of Kimi Raikkonen's Ferrari. The Finn was two-tenths clear of Hamilton's McLaren team-mate Fernando Alonso. The second Ferrari, driven by Felipe Massa, was bumped down the order into sixth place by the two BMWs of Nick Heidfeld and Robert Kubica, while Ralf Schumacher showed his pace to set the seventh best time at what is his - and the Toyota team's - home race. It was a bit of a surprise to see Jenson Button eighth, ahead of David Coulthard's Red Bull and Rubens Barrichello in the second Honda. Jarno Trulli was 11th in his Toyota, ahead of the two Williams-Toyotas in 12th and 13th, Alexander Wurz on this occasion faster than Nico Rosberg.
Anthony Davidson was next up in his Super Aguri Honda ahead of Mark Webber's Red Bull, Takuma Sato's Super Aguri and the Toro Rosso of Tonio Liuzzi. The Renaults were not trying to impress (as often happens on Fridays) and they were 18th and 19th. The field was completed by Scott Speed's Toro Rosso and the two Spykers, with Adrian Sutil ahead of new boy Markus Winkelhock.
