Lando Norris was fastest in the second free practice session today with a 1m11.330s lap in his McLaren-Mercedes around a congested Zandvoort circuit, with championship leader Max Verstappen trailing by 0.023s in his Red Bull-Honda.

Running was limited today after Norris’ teammate Oscar Piastri entered the banking at turn 3 too fast, sending his car into the barriers. Fellow countryman Daniel Ricciardo arrived moments later committed to a high line which he aborted, sending his Alphatauri into the barrier alongside his fellow countryman.

With nearly a quarter of the session lost to red flag conditions, Williams-Mercedes driver Alex Albon went on to take third ahead of Mercedes Lewis Hamilton and Ricciardo teammate Yuki Tsunoda. Alpine’s Pierre Gasly was next quickest ahead of Red Bull’s Sergio Perez and Aston’s Lance Stroll, who was nearly 0.5s behind Norris.

Valtteri Bottas was ninth fastest ahead of Stroll teammate Fernando Alonso and Charles Leclerc, whose Ferrari is expected to see more upgrades later this season.

Williams’ Logan Sargeant moved down in the standings from seventh in today’s earlier practice to 12th overall ahead of Alpine’s Esteban Ocon and Mercedes’ George Russell. Alfa’s Guanyu Zhou was next in 15th with Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz next ahead of the Haas duo of Kevin Magnussen and Nico Hulkenberg.

Practice resumes tomorrow at 11:30a with qualifying at 3p.
