The weather in Shanghai has not been good today and during the second practice session for the Chinese Grand Prix there was rain at the Shanghai International Circuit, although not enough to disrupt the times to any great extent. Alexander Wurz was fastest in the session in his Williams-Cosworth, just a fraction faster than Germany's Sebastian Vettel (BMW) and Honda's Anthony Davidson. The Ferraris of Felipe Massa and Michael Schumacher were fourth and fifth fastest ahead of Fernando Alonso's Renault and the Super Aguri of Franck Montagny.

The top 10 was completed by Michael Ammermuller in his Red Bull Racing.

There were a number of spins in the session with Scuderia Toro Rosso having a lot of problems with Neel Jani stopping out on the track and both Tonio Liuzzi and Scott Speed spinning.

Alonso also had a spin.
