Felipe Massa set the fastest time of the morning session on Saturday in Brazil, a tenth of a second faster than the impressive Lewis Hamilton and Massa's Ferrari team-mate Kimi Raikkonen. Fernando Alonso was eighth quickest in his McLaren, six-tenths slower than his team-mate. The times seemed somewhat mixed with Mark Webber a surprising fourth fastest with Jarno Trulli fifth and Rubens Barrichello sixth, which seemed odd given the recent levels of performance of the cars involved. Nick Heidfeld was seventh quickest in his BMW Sauber while Sebastian Vettel was ninth, just ahead of Nico Rosberg and Tonio Liuzzi.

The Renaults were nowhere with Giancarlo Fisichella 12th and Heikki Kovalainen 15th, with Jenson Button 13th, Ralf Schumacher 14th and David Coulthard 16th. At the back the picture was less confused with Anthony Davidson and Takuma Sato 17th and 18th and F1 new boy Kazuki Nakajima 19th.

Robert Kubica stopped out on the circuit during the session and thus ended up 20th ahead of the two Spykers - Adrian Sutil just ahead of Sakon Yamamoto. The session was a hard one to read as some of the times were very surprising so it will be interesting to see how things develop in qualifying this afternoon.
