Anthony Davidson topped the timesheets in the first test session for the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa, the BAR-Honda test driver setting a best lap of 1m45.104s, three-tenths of a second faster than Michael Schumacher's best for Ferrari. Rubens Barrichello was third quickest two-tenths slower than Schumacher and then there was a second gap back to Jaguar Racing test driver Bjorn Wirdheim. It was a good morning for Jaguar with Mark Webber seventh and Christian Klien eighth.

Kimi Raikkonen was fifth quickest ahead Fernando Alonso with Williams's Antonio Pizzonia ninth and Toyota test driver Ryan Briscoe 10th. While the test drivers have an advantage on Fridays it was nonetheless interesting to note that there were three in the top 10.

Jenson Button was 11th fastest ahead of Juan Pablo Montoya, Takuma Sato and Giancarlo Fisichella, while David Coulthard was down in 15th.
