Ricardo Zonta was fastest in the first practice session at Bahrain on Friday morning with a best lap that was seven-tenths faster than Michael Schumacher, who was keen to do well at the wheel of the new Ferrari F2005. The rumours in Bahrain was that Bridgestone is still struggling to be competitive and Michael's time might have been "a Friday special" to give the troops some encouragement in these difficult times. Tonio Liuzzi was third fastest in his Red Bull ahead of Alexander Wurz's McLaren, Rubens Barrichello's Ferrari, Pedro de la Rosa's McLaren and Mark Webber in the Williams-BMW.
