Jenson Button continued his dominant performance on Saturday morning, ending the fourth practice session in Bahrain fastest in his BAR-Honda, a tenth faster than Ralf Schumacher and Juan Pablo Montoya in the two Williams-BMWs. Underlining the performance of the BARs, Takuma Sato was fourth fastest, although he was half a second slower than Montoya. Michael Schumacher, who again had an off in the course of the session, was fifth fastest ahead of Jarno Trulli, Cristiano da Matta, Rubens Barrichello, Fernando Alonso and Olivier Panis.

It was a miserable morning for McLaren with David Coulthard not getting out until the final two minutes of the session and Kimi Raikkonen failing to get out of the pits at his first attempt and then going off track several times in the course of the session. There were problems for a variety of drivers including two offs for Alonso, spins from both Saubers and from Christian Klien in the Jaguar and Zsolt Baumgartner in the Minardi.
