Practice 3 Report - What does it all mean?

The BMW Saubers of Robert Kubica and Nick Heidfeld gave everyone a surprise in Melbourne on Saturday morning, setting the fastest times of the last practice session in Melbourne. The major players were nowhere and the conclusion was that they were working on race settings while other teams were fine-tuning the cars for qualifying. The two BMWs were ahead of Fernando Alonso's Renault and the Williams of Nico Rosberg.

The odd list continued with the two Red Bull-Renaults of David Coulthard and Mark Webber in fifth and sixth, followed by Jenson Button, who recorded the seventh best time in his Honda. Completing the top 10 were Sebastian Vettel (Toro Rosso), Giancarlo Fisichella (Force India) and Jarno Trulli (Toyota).

The fastest of the expected frontrunners was Felipe Massa in 11th, with Lewis Hamilton 12th and Kimi Raikkonen 14th. The gaggle of fast cars was split by Timo Glock's Toyota.

Nelson Piquet Jr continued to struggle to keep up with his Renault team mate Fernando Alonso and was only 15th. Next up was Rubens Barrichello in his Honda, Adrian Sutil in the second Force India, Sebasten Bourdais's Toro Rosso, Kazuki Nakajima's Williams, Heikki Kovalainen's McLaren and the two Super Aguris.

This is unlikely to be the order after qualifying this afternoon.
