Qualifying 2 Report - Fisichella on pole in worthless session

The new Formula 1 Sunday qualifying session was a complicated and difficult to follow business but mark Webber emerged fastest in the session with a best lap which was a tenth faster than the best lap achieved by Giancarlo Fisichella. This however may not be very significant because Fisichella started the session with a second and a half in hand over the others after Saturday's wet and dry session. The problem with the cumulative qualifying format is that the clock hides the actual performance of the driver one in seeing, making it hard to understand who is fast and who is slow. Things were definitely not helped by the weather on Saturday afternoon but the Sunday morning session did see one or two changes in the order with David Coulthard moving ahead of Christian Klien. Montoya, Raikkonen and Barrichello overtaking Narain Karthikeyan, Alonso overtaking Monteiro and Fernando Alonso ahead of Patrick Freisacher.

Michael Schumacher did not both to go for a lap time and so will start 18th on the grid ahead of Takuma Sato and Felipe Massa, neither of whom ran on Sunday morning.

The confusing new system was such that even Giancarlo Fisichella did not realize that he had not set the fastest time of the morning.

Mark Webber was fastest.
