Peace declared in US racing

The owners of Champ Car and the Indy Racing League have announced an agreement to unify the sport for 2008. The three signatories to the agreement are Gerald Forsythe his partner Kevin Kalkhoven and Indy Racing League founder and chief executive Tony George.

No further details have been announced but the news means that the damaging split that has divided the two series since 1996 is finally over and American open-wheeler can begin the process of repairing the damage that had been done.

It is anticipated that the new series will include the Indianapolis 500, the Long Beach Grand Prix and the race in Surfers Paradise, Australia.
