Brands CART race pulls in a promising crowd

The official attendance figure for Monday's London Champ Car Trophy was just under 40,000 with a total audience over the three days of 58,500. The event was won by France's FIA International Formula 3000 champion Sebastien Bourdais, who was competing in only his fourth CART event. Bourdais's win ended Paul Tracy's string of three victories although Tracy started from pole at the Kent track and led the early part of the race before losing the lead to Bourdais because of a slow pit stop. He later retired with a gearbox failure but he continues to lead the championship.

Bourdais was followed home by his predecessor as F3000 champion Bruno Junqueira, making it a 1-2 for Newman Haas Racing. Mario Dominguez was third.

The CART teams now go on to the Lausitzring where they will race next weekend.
