Irvine and Herbert complete drive up Broadway

Jaguar pair Eddie Irvine and Johnny Herbert both completed a promotional drive up Broadway in New York on Tuesday to signal the return of Formula One to the United States.

Irvine drove the Jaguar R1 along five blocks of Broadway while Herbert took to the wheel of a New York taxi cab in front of thousands of spectators, who had lined the street up to the finish at Times Square.

"I was thrilled to be given the chance to take centre stage," said Irvine. "I've encountered traffic on the race track, but to be in the thick of it in a Jaguar on the streets of New York was brilliant.

"It was an effective way for Jaguar to help the promotion of Formula One in the US ahead of the Grand Prix in Indianapolis. There is so much expectation among the American fans and we certainly converted a few more."

Herbert, who travelled alongside Irvine in an old style yellow cab, added: "The atmosphere was unbelievable. I knew we would create a fuss, but the turnout was overwhelming. It shows that the American public are really getting behind Formula One."
