Alesi sticking by Prost

FRENCHMAN JEAN ALESI has vowed to quit the struggling Prost team unless they can provide him with a car capable of challenging for honors.

Alesi, the veteran driver of the grid, has been hit by persistent problems throughout the season and he has threatened to quit the team unless a solution is found to their troubles.

"I feel really good to work with Alain," Alesi said. "I want to stay with him as long as I can be fast enough. When I can't, then I will quit."

However, the Frenchman heads into his home event in jovial spirits after joking about the speed of his car in testing at Magny-Cours last week, where he produced much quicker lap times.

He added: "When I did my first lap, the team called me back into the pits immediately. They thought the telemetry was broken because the lap time was too fast.

"Now, we are really looking for a good result this weekend. If we can make the top six, it will be a good achievement."
