Schumacher is World Champion

MICHAEL SCHUMACHER'S brilliant victory at Aida yesterday clinched the German's second World Championship. He now has a total of 92 World Championship points, while his title rival Damon Hill has 59. There are only 20 points still available and while Schumacher cannot be caught, Hill's position in the series is under threat from David Coulthard, Jean Alesi and Johnny Herbert, all of whom could finish runner-up if Hill fails to score in the final two races.

The Constructors' Championship remains open, but the two Williams-Renault drivers need good results if they are to catch Benetton, which currently has 123 points to Williams's 102. There are a maximum of 32 points still available. The battle for fourth place is also worth watching as McLaren, Jordan, Sauber and Ligier are all covered by just five points.
