Pedro Lamy for Forti?

Portuguese racer Pedro Lamy is close to signing a deal to race with the new Forti Corse team. Forti has so far proved to have reliable cars, but they are very slow, although the team claims to have a $17m budget for the year with which to make progress.

Lamy had lengthy negotiations this winter with Tyrrell, Pacific and Forti. He even tested a Tyrrell chassis, but the team decided to take Mika Salo instead.

Lamy drove for Lotus early last year until he broke both his legs in a nasty testing crash at Silverstone. He has not raced since. Lamy is understood to have $2m worth of sponsorship available for any team which will give him a drive. In the meantime, however, Forti has confirmed that Roberto Moreno will be staying on with the team for the San Marino GP at Imola at the end of this month. The Brazilian veteran is trying to find the money to continue for the whole season with Forti, but this is not proving to be an easy task.
