Drivers

Conny Andersson

A Stockholm-based former motocross rider, Andersson competed in Formula 3 racing as a privateer for nearly 10 years and became a yardstick by which new young drivers were measured. In 1975 he found backing from Rotel to run a pair of March 753 chassis in the European Formula 3 Championship. He won the Monaco Formula 3 Grand Prix only to lose the victory because of a jumped start. The penalty was a minute but such was his domination in the race that even with the added time he was still classified fourth. He won the European F3 race at Anderstorp in Sweden but was beaten to the title by a late charge from Australian Larry Perkins. The following season he won four European F3 races (Nurburgring, Avus, Croix-en-Ternois and Knutstorp) but was pipped to the European title again, this time by Italian rising star Riccardo Patrese. He drove a Surtees in the Dutch Grand Prix that year but at the end of that year faded out of the racing scene. After retiring from the sport he ran his family's garage business in the town of Nodinge, just to the north of Goteborg.
