Niedermayr drove an AFM-BMW in the 1952 German Grand Prix at the Nurburgring, the same year in which he shared the second place Mercedes-Benz 300SL with Theo Helfrich at Le Mans. That same summer he crashed into the crowd at the Grenzlandring circuit in an accident which killed at least 13 spectators.
