South African semiprofessional who drove a Team Gunston Lotus 72 to 11th place in the 1975 South African Grand Prix, Tunmer was also a dab hand at national level Formula Atlantic racing and his career thrived in this category. He died from injuries received in a motorcycle accident at the age of 50.
