Fernando Alonso set the fastest time of the Saturday morning session in Indianapolis but there were some odd times further down the order, suggesting that not everyone was running with the same fuel loads. Second overall was BMW Sauber's new boy Sebastian Vettel who snuck in a tenth ahead of Lewis Hamilton. Heikki Kovalainen was fourth fastest in his Renault ahead of Nich Heidfeld in the second BMW and Kimi Raikkonen in the faster of the two Ferraris. Felipe Massa was seventh fastest with the Renault of Giancarlo Fisichella eighth and the top 10 was completed by David Coulthard in his Red Bull-Renault and Nico Rosberg in the fastest of the Toyota-engined cars.

Jarno Trulli and Ralf Schumacher were next with the Honda troops behind them led by Anthony Davidson in 13th.

Behind him was Mark Webber in his Red Bull, Jenson Button's Honda, Tonio Liuzzi in the Toro Rosso, Takuma Sato in his Super Aguri, Rubens Barrichello's Honda, Alexander Wurz's Williams, Scott Speed in his Toro Rosso and the two Spykers with Adrian Sutil once again ahead of Christijan Albers.

Whether this is a clear pattern of performance for this afternoon is an interesting question.
